Motif does not invent a source for a stripped referrer. The chart stays honest; the ranking ignores Direct.

Two different buckets

Direct / unknown: Motif stored a visitor, but the first event had no utm, click id, or classified referrer.
Unattributed: Stripe collected money Motif could not join to a visitor.

What to do

If first-party collection share is low, serve m.js from your own host; privacy browsers drop third-party beacons. If that share is already high, remaining Direct is typed URLs, bookmarks, in-app browsers, and stripped referrers. Motif will not reassign it.
